چکیده

Erratum: “Nutrient Pollution: A Persistent Threat to Waterways” The November 2014 News article “Nutrient Pollution: A Persistent Threat to Waterways” [Environ Health Perspect 122:A304–A309; http://dx.doi.org/10.1289/ehp.122-A304] accidentally used the same map to depict both phosphorus and nitrogen pollution in U.S. waterways. In addition, the caption for the phosphorus map incorrectly stated that six of nine ecoregions have phosphorus levels rated “poor” in at least a third of river and stream miles, when in fact this is true of eight ecoregions.

Model Simulation of Runoff and Nutrient Lossses from Three Adjacent Row-crop Watersheds in the Claypan Region

Watershed models have become useful and necessary to evaluate impacts of conservation management practices on non-point source pollution (NPSP), as in situ studies at the watershed scale have inherent problems such as high costs due to their large scale and complex nature, private ownership of land, and results not timely enough to avoid negative consequences of current practices (Korfmacher, 2...

Soil phosphorus constrains biodiversity across European grasslands.

Nutrient pollution presents a serious threat to biodiversity conservation. In terrestrial ecosystems, the deleterious effects of nitrogen pollution are increasingly understood and several mitigating environmental policies have been developed. Compared to nitrogen, the effects of increased phosphorus have received far less attention, although some studies have indicated that phosphorus pollution...

Environmental health in the health care setting.

The health care industry is a major contributor to environmental pollution. Through the processes of waste disposal, including incineration, the health care industry is one of the largest contributors to environmental dioxin and mercury. Mercury contamination of our waterways has created the conditions by which a significant number of fish are sufficiently mercury-laden so as to pose a human he...

Simulated Trading for Maryland’s Nitrogen Loadings in the Chesapeake Bay: A Policy Overlook

• Point sources of nitrogen and phosphorus are facilities that discharge wastewater containing these nutrients directly into the waterway. nonpoint sources discharge nutrients indirectly by rainwater runoff; agriculture can be a cause of nonpoint nutrient pollution from chemical fertilizers and animal manure. Nutrients, primarily nitrogen and phosphorus, are a leading cause of water quality imp...
